Conservation Support & Environmental Collaboration

Lindblad Expeditions has a long history of working very closely with various conservation partners through outreach, collaboration and local project support. Partners with whom we are currently collaborating include:
Partner Number One
Blue Ocean Institute
Working with Blue Ocean Institute (BOI) helps us ensure that seafood offerings are carefully selected for flavor and best fishing practices. We choose not to purchase or serve species that are considered overfished or caught by practices that have serious environmental impact.
Partner Number Three
Oceanites
This Antarctica-focused non-profit seeks to gather information on resident animal populations and the impacts of tourism. Our ship, the National Geographic Endeavour, houses scientists during their census activities as part of the Antarctic Site Inventory, involves guests in basic research, and raises funds for the organization. Oceanities was the first recipient of a grant from the Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic Fund for Education, Conservation and Research in 2006. Together with our guests, we have raised nearly $500,000 to support the work of Oceanites (as of October 2007).
Partner Number One
Marine Stewardship Council
The MSC has developed a certification standard for sustainable marine fisheries. LEX was the first U.S. signatory to support the MSC. LEX purchases from MSC certified suppliers whenever possible.
Partner Number Three
Chef’s Collaborative
With over 1,000 members in the food community, this national network works to promote sustainable cuisine. Our support of the Collaborative reinforces our use of local and seasonal ingredients on board our ships as well as engaging with local farmers, fishermen and other suppliers who use sustainable practices in an effort to protect the environment.
Partner Number One
MarViva
In Central America, MarViva, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, is our partner in conservation. MarViva works with local authorities and communities to protect marine resources along the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Conservation Corridor and the Caribbean. All funds donated by our guests directly support projects operated by MarViva.
Alaska Whale Foundation
The Alaska Whale Foundation conducts research on humpback whale communication and behavior. This research is shared with guests through visits to the vessels by the research team. Lindblad Expeditions, in partnership with our guests, has donated over $250,000 (as of October 2007) to AWF.
Clean Air-Cool Planet
Clean Air-Cool Planet is the leading science-based, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated solely to finding and promoting solutions to global warming, providing hands-on assistance to companies, campuses, communities and science centers throughout the Northeast.
