Emily Hyde
Emily grew up in the beautiful, rainy Pacific Northwest. Born and raised on Vashon Island, she then moved to nearby Seattle to attend the University of Washington. After completing her degree in English Literature, Emily spent the next year preparing for and hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with her older brother. There she discovered a passion for backpacking and spent the next few years walking all over the world, from the Te Araroa trail in New Zealand to the Spanish El Camino to the Laugavegur trail in Iceland.
The up close and personal nature of long distance hiking led Emily to her passion for sustainability and the natural world. Certified as a Master Composter and Sustainability Steward from Seattle Tilth Alliance, she is regularly found elbows deep in worm bins or engaged in in-depth discussions about Leave No Trace principles.
Her combined passions for travel and conservation have led her to yet again follow in her older brother's footsteps (although not so literally this time), as a member of the Lindblad Expeditions team. Off the ship, Emily likes to be practicing her homesteading skills by baking bread, making jam, and experimenting with fermentation. When not in the kitchen she can be found in the mountains hiking, climbing, or practicing sun salutations.
