Iann Sanchez
Born and raised in Panama, Iann Sanchez has been a naturalist and adventure guide for 20 years. He has a degree in geology from the University of South Florida and worked for six years as a naturalist park ranger in the Grand Canyon, Canyonlands, and Big Bend National Parks. He also worked as a rafting guide in the Rio Grande leading day- and multi-day trips through the canyons of the Big Bend region.
Since 1997 he has been in Panama, near the Canal Zone, where he lives with his wife and son and leads trips covering Panamanian history, rain forest ecology, flora and fauna, Panama Canal construction and engineering, and Spanish colonial defense sites. He also takes groups on adventure tours that include mountain biking, sea-kayaking, caving, rafting, sea-kayaking, and white-water kayaking. He leads local tours of the Panamanian coastline, islands, and offers historical overviews during Panama Canal transits. He has also been a part-time naturalist guide at the Smithsonian research station on Barro Colorado island in the Canal Zone for 12 years.
