James Garry

Jim holds degrees from the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources as a naturalist. He is a Texan who lives in Wyoming and works throughout the West. The bulk of his research and teaching is in the overlap of natural history, history, folklore and myth. This work has included a great deal of work with bears, ravens, whales, salmon and other creatures that are important to this world as real and mythic beings. Jim began his career as a naturalist studying eagles and osprey, but soon became more interested in the people of the west. He now works as a storyteller, researcher, free-lance lecturer, and writer, teaching others about our western heritage. A popular Smithsonian study leader, Jim has led several tours in the West. Jim has worked off and on as a cowboy all his life. For the last fifteen years, he has been teaching classes and doing research on Lewis & Clark as well as preparing maps on the expedition for the Smithsonian.
