Joann Roe

JoAnn is a lifetime journalist with hundreds of magazine and newspaper credits and has lived in the Northwest for half her life. She has written 14 published books, as well, on historical topics, including one about the Columbia River itself--all 1200+ miles of it (The Columbia River, Fulcrum Publishers, 1992). She served as historian-lecturer about the Columbia River and the Northwest on three cruise lines besides our own.

Her approach to history is informal and full of human interest stories. After writing on extremely diverse topics for a score of years, she will both entertain and inform passengers and include anecdotes from personal experience. She is prepared to focus heavily on the voyages of Lewis and Clark but will touch on the Columbia River's rumrunners, rogues, bar pilots, native Americans and settlers, and maritime events, as well. She is married, has four grown children, enjoys hiking, tennis, horseback riding, and maritime sports.
