Lana Tannir

National Geographic Explorer Lana Tannir is a conservation photographer, science storyteller and biologist based in Germany. For the past 10 years, her work has focused on documenting the intersection of people and nature in remote Arctic regions and marine environments. Through her stories, Lana aims to advocate for global change by raising awareness and advancing education. She collaborates with scientists and researchers to shed light on some of today’s most pressing environmental issues. Most recently, her National Geographic-funded work with marine institutes, NGOs and research centers has recorded new discoveries related to harbor porpoises.

Lana’s images have been published internationally in the German and Serbian editions of National Geographic Magazine, Oceanographic Magazine, Sony Alpha Female, Sidetracked Magazine, Terra Mater and others. In 2021, she received an honorable mention at the International Photography Awards in the “Photojournalism” category and was recognized as an emerging photographer in landscape photography by National Geographic Germany. In 2023, she served on the judging panel of Nature TTL’s Photographer of the Year competition. In addition to her role as a Girls Who Click Ambassador, Lana has participated in diverse National Geographic mentorships, workshops and events to expand her skillset. When she is not roaming around the German Alps or North Sea islands, she enjoys indoor cycling, swimming and yoga. ;
