Marca Kidwell-Babcock

Marca grew up in Bellingham, Washington and graduated from Western Washington University with a master's degree in environmental education. Her program of study focused on effectively teaching environmental literacy, so that young students can learn what is necessary to engage constructively in environmental problem-solving.

Currently, Marca teaches third grade at a local elementary school, where her teaching units include marine biology and Native Americans. Recently she has developed several new activities involving the application of digital imaging in elementary education. Bringing technology into the classroom has proven to be a new and exciting method for engaging her students and helping them reach a fuller understanding of the wonders of the natural world. Marca has had 20 years experience working with children and has organized projects that teach about salmon restoration, water quality, butterfly gardening, and geologic adventures. She has a deep love for the natural world, and enjoys nothing more than sharing that passion with children and adults alike. 

She has a special interest in butterflies, especially those that fly in unusual places like arctic and alpine zones. Marca spent several summers working in Alaska in the fish processing industry and looks forward to sharing her experiences in this unique habitat. Marca, and her husband Scott, enjoy traveling, hiking, skiing, gourmet cooking. Additionally they have collaborated on many environmental education ventures ranging from the National Park Service to environmental and public education organizations.
