Nic Grant
For Nic, being raised in the southern coast of New Jersey was quintessential to his pursuit of a long passion for the natural world. He drew inspiration to study ecology from the often-overlooked important coastal environments of his home state. He pursued his collegiate studies in engineering and finished with a BS in Biology. Nic's final studies of university focused on maritime science, conducting coral reef ecological studies and learning leadership at sea aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer.
For the past six years Nic has been with the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) as a marine science instructor, lead aquarist, and facility logistics administrator. Here his technical background in marine field science grew, beginning his first SCUBA dives and finally leaving the facility over one hundred dives later as an AAUS scientific diver.
Nic has a diverse background as a scientist, teacher and naturalist. He believes our best chance to take care of the natural world happens when we have authentic moments with it. He's led countless hikes in a variety of environments, worked on research teams publishing phylogenetic studies, field collected for aquariums, worked as a scientific diver in kelp restoration, taught photography classes in both terrestrial and ocean settings, and worked at remote field stations in peninsular Alaska and the Caribbean. His photographic and scientific work has been featured in Modern Huntsman magazine, his alma mater Rowan Magazine, and on the podcast 'Looking at Birds'.
