Rondang Siregar
Rondang was born in Waingapu, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, and is one of the few orangutan experts in Indonesia. She has been involved in orangutan conservation projects since pursuing her bachelor’s degree at University of National in Indonesia in 1983. She received her master’s and PhD degrees at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Her postgraduate fieldwork focused on the management of an orangutan rehabilitation program and behavioral adaptation of reintroduced orangutans in the natural habitat.
Currently she is working as a research associate at the Research Center for Climate Change-University of Indonesia, and as a scientific advisor at International Animal Rescue in Indonesia. Her research interests include orangutan behavioral ecology, ex-captive orangutan behavior adaptation, biodiversity conservation, human-animal interaction and sustainable development.
