Yann Herrera
Constantly on the move, Yann’s nomadic nature and his desire for exploration has led him to stumble in awe over and over again with the planet’s astounding wildlife, sceneries and cultures. Growing up in Morelos, Mexico’s capital for ‘eternal spring’, and the rainy coasts of the Pacific Northwest in the United States, the outdoors became an unavoidable home which nurtured his formation as a human being. But living in the chaos and excitement of Mexico City fed his interest in culture, art and people’s relationship to land.
His eclectic interests took him in pursuit of an Environmental Science degree, which he obtained from the University of British Columbia in Canada, where he assisted in a research project related to food security and indigenous fisheries around the world. Shortly after graduating he began working for the World Wildlife Fund, becoming involved in several fisheries and marine conservation projects along the Baja California peninsula.
In 2018, Yann was selected as a Rolex scholar for the Our World-Underwater Scholarship Society, which granted him a year of travel and learning from experts in the underwater realm as well as endless diving opportunities. Since then, he has actively worked as a diver mapping caves in the Channel Islands, performing underwater surveys alongside fishers in the Gulf of California and collecting samples from marine sponges in Antarctica.
