This morning, after a wonderful breakfast, we went back to our rooms to find our rubber boots waiting in front of our doors, ready for our first outings of the day.

Once we were comfortably outfitted in our jungle gear, we loaded into the skiffs for a short ride ashore to a privately owned area of Amazon Park.

At Amazon Park, we landed on a floating pier, which led us to another wooden pier on a man-made lagoon. Here, local workers paddled us through to the other side of the lagoon on small, catamaran-style boats. The ride through the small lagoons was slow and peaceful, and the soft rhythmical sound of the paddles was accompanied by many bird calls from the surrounding pristine forest.

On the other side of the lake, we went for a walk through the forest under gigantic trees. Our local naturalists stopped along the way, explaining the ecosystem and biology of the plants in this tropical rainforest. We also had the opportunity to walk on suspension bridges built through the mid-canopy, on the trees themselves, to experience the forest from above the ground.

The hot midday was comfortably spent back onboard the Delfin II, where we had a delicious lunch, followed by some interesting presentations and time to rest, in preparation for our late afternoon skiff explorations at Nauta Creek.

The weather today was fantastic, and our explorations in the afternoon had the perfect light for viewing and photographing the interesting creatures of the Amazon, such as the curious Spix’s night-monkeys, and the noisy black-collared hawks, among many others.

On our way back on our skiffs, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset. It was another wonderful day in this tropical paradise!
