Our second day exploring the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve began with a delicious breakfast aboard Delfin II. Right after breakfast we visited Amazon Natural Park, which is a private reserve. We hiked a lovely trail after cruising a manmade lake created for fish farming. We enjoyed the lush forest and had the opportunity to go through hanging bridges observing the wildlife of the canopy.
After lunch we arrived to a Kokama Kokamiria village called Puerto Prado. We were greeted with a welcome ceremony where the native women danced to the rhythm of traditional music. Once the ceremony was over, we were taken to see a pond with giant water lilies. It was a great cultural experience.
Our day of exploration ended with a cruise on a creek called Piraña Caño. Troops of squirrel monkeys foraged along the river bank ignoring our presence. By the time we were returning to the Delfin II, flocks of birds were also returning to their sleeping area. Seeing the sunset with the sky covered with flocks of parakeets, oropendolas, caciques, and many other species heading to their evening perches was a great way to finish this day.
