Today our Amazon expedition brought us to a magical location with a lot of wildlife. Early in the morning the calling of the birds surprised us as we enjoyed our breakfast. The best way to begin the day’s exploration was to hike well into the forests of Amazon Natural Reserve in order to witness nature’s wonders. As we got into the forest, the different species of trees surrounded us like sleeping giants of a mystic world. The magnificence of the place was displayed in a color combination of green leaves and a blue sky.

Farther into the trail a natural symphony of nature was played by different bird species found on the trees: oropendulas, and yellow-rumped caciques singing made it perfect for a delightful moment inside the Reserve. Once we reached the farthest point, it was time to get a different perspective on the hike as some hanging bridges gave us a different point of view of the forest. On our way back to the Delfin II an osprey surprised us by plunging into the water in order to catch a fish. Once back on board Delfin II, we began navigation in order to get to our next destination: Nauta Caño.

In the afternoon our exploration just got better, and the best way to continue was to take a skiff ride into Nauta Caño River. Home to thousands of birds, and host of hundreds of mammals, the Amazon is one of the most spectacular places on Earth, and Nauta Caño was the perfect spot to enjoy nature’s marvels found in this part of the continent. At the beginning of exploration we had the presence of ringed kingfishers flying all around us. Black collared hawks decorated the coastal area as they became our ride companions during the activity.

On the shoreline, cocoi herons were found trying to feed on small animals found in the area. Up on the trees, we had the surprise of finding a three-toed sloth that camouflaged very well with the tree brunches. On our way back to Delfin II the presence of squirrel monkeys got awe-inspired as they were jumping from tree to tree in order to make their way back home. It couldn’t get better into the amazon exploration.
