Today is our third day of exploring the Upper Amazon of Peru; at this time of the week all our guests are adjusted to the “jungle style of life”, it is peaceful place where the sounds of birds and animals are sweet melodies to ours ears, and the multicolor environment is just quietness for our souls. This is an expedition, we have to be ready for coming out of our comfortable zone, it is hot, humid, chilly, sunny, rainy, etc. but nothing of these subjects are an obstacle to enjoy this trip that happens once in our lives.
This morning we are visiting the Amazon Park, which is a private reserve of few thousand acres of protected primary and secondary forest. We disembarked at 8:00 am and we walked to admire the jungle in its splendor; giant trees were surrounding us every single step we moved, and the experience of walking few meters above the ground along the suspension bridges built in this place is just amazing and unforgettable. The local naturalists are very knowledgeable and they know everything about the jungle, and they spot creatures that camouflage very well in this emerald world. We found all type of medicinal plants and bushes, rubber trees, air plants, big ants, and birds around. We had a lot of fun in this magical place.
In the afternoon, we moved to Nauta Creek; here we skiff ride along creeks that offered to us the opportunity of seeing many type of creatures. One of the most famous ones are sloths, they are incredible animals that climb until the top of the trees in search of fruits and leafs for feeding. Monkeys are also the most desired to see in the jungle, there is many type of them but the most common seen are the squirrel monkeys. Pink dolphins are very common to see in these black water lagoons or at the convergence of brown and black water where fish are abundant; gray dolphins are also seen in great numbers. At the end of the day we spotted herons, terns and great egrets fishing at the riverbanks. Black water lagoons are as mirror and the sky reflects clearly, and during the sunset it becomes one of the most spectacular scenarios at this magical place.
