Today we got to know why this place is called a rainforest! We woke up in the early morning and with a cup of fresh coffee in hand we watched a tropical shower. There was a nice warm breeze and the rain shrouded the whole Amazon basin, at the same time the river transported trees and large patches of grass. The level of the rivers will continue to rise, which is great for our expedition. With higher water level, exploration of the flooded forest will be even better.

In the morning we visited a small community named Amazonas. Here, we met the local people, visited the school, and met the children. With our guides we interacted with the children, teaching them English songs and practicing some Spanish words. It was a terrific experience. The children were very happy to have practiced some English and also to have seen new people in their village.

In the afternoon we boarded the skiffs and we headed to Yarapa River. Some of us explored the place from kayaks. In both activities we really had a great time with new bird and monkey sightings. These tall trees are full of flowers or full of food, which attracts flocks of diverse types of birds and mammals such as squirrel monkeys.

The highlight of the day was having the opportunity to see yellow macaws on a close tree, a pair of white-breasted toucans. As well as the creamy colored woodpecker. We all were entirely immersed in the life of the rainforest and suddenly it was time to come back with a gorgeous reddening sky at sunset.
