This morning we visited the island of Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Greek Cyclades island group. After a short Zodiac ride we landed in the port of Katapola, where we boarded buses for a scenic ride over to the other side of this small island to visit the Monastery of Hozoviotissa.

The monastery, which was built in the 11th century as a tribute to the Grace of Panagia sea is a truly impressive sight. It’s a white, seven-story building that is literally hanging on the cliff side, 300 meters above the very blue waters of the Aegean Sea.

On our way back to the Sea Cloud we stopped by the village of Chora in Amorgos, which is situated 400 meters above sea level. We had a leisurely exploration of the narrow walkways, full of very picturesque little stores and cafes.

It has been a very interesting and fun day, full of beautiful scenery, glimpses of the past, and insights of the present life of the Greek people.
