After another half day at sea journeying across the rest of the Drake Passage, we arrived at the South Shetland Islands. These islands are a welcome sight, and happily our destination is within reach- the White Continent itself.

As soon as we could, we set off for a landing on Barrientos Island, our first of the voyage. We walked along the rugged shores, mingling with gentoo and chinstrap penguins. Elephant seals lay frustrated by their annual molt and Weddell seals contently observed the shores on this continent we would explore in the coming days.
