It was a beautiful day on the high seas sailing towards South Georgia with a following wind and calm sea conditions.

After the excitement of the southern lights last evening, we settled into a morning of presentations from the expedition team. Eduardo shared his knowledge and stories about the penguins of South Georgia before Amy taught us about the importance of Antarctic krill as a keystone species.

Following a delicious lunch up in the sanctuary on deck eight, we began our preparations for South Georgia. First up were a couple of briefings, including a wonderful video narrated by David Attenborough, and then it was down to basecamp to clean our outdoor gear to get ready for our first steps on South Georgia.

It was soon time for tea and more tasty treats, and then we enjoyed a lecture from Peter, who enlightened us on how to identify the whales we might be lucky enough to see on this voyage.

Before Sara and the galley team could wow with another great meal, we enjoyed our first recap from the expedition team. There were tales of photographers, explorers, auroras and ocean currents, and all these stories were enjoyed with a cocktail in hand.
