At first light we were at Puerto Escondido for a technical stop where we enjoyed the morning light playing across the Sierra de la Giganta, that rose over 6000 feet above us. These mountains were made from over 12 million years of explosive eruptions that deposited searing volcanic ash, violent flows of red hot debris, and landslides of chaos. Now this area is dotted with a few serene villages, a productive sea, and a place for us to hike, kayak, and enjoy our surroundings.
