Our first day of the crossing to South Georgia brought fair winds and following seas, blissfully calm conditions that allowed National Geographic Resolution to make excellent time toward our destination. It has been a day to relax and settle into the ship that will be our home for the next two weeks. It gave us a chance to get in a little reading or enjoy a soothing massage and to prepare for the coming adventures with a couple of educational presentations from the staff.

In the morning, Naturalist Peter Wilson described the seabirds we are likely to see on our passage, and in the afternoon, I gave a talk on photography with smart phones, the remarkable cameras that live in our pockets. We’re on our way to South Georgia and getting more excited every minute.
