Land behind us and land ahead but nothing but wave, feather and time between. It’s been 24 hours that we have been at sea en route to the 90 mile long chunk of land that brought us all here. Hardly a soul can admit that South Georgia has not been the impetus for their journey thus far and hardly a soul can hide their anticipation for the adventures ahead. From staff to stowaway these two words have been behind every sentence uttered today. Four equally inspiring lecturers graced our lounge as of this morning and from behind every breath that passed through their lips was reverence for the place we are bound.

Adding to the anticipation has been a host of sea birds, as diverse as could ever be dreamt. From dusk until dawn we have been guided to the southeast by over 20 different species of wind hungry travelers, many of which call South Georgia home. Are they following us or are we following them?

The seas have been kind, nudging us along as persistently as the wind at our backs. Squall, sun, rainbow, squall, sun, rainbow has been the rhythm of the day and as we bounce along our track that rhythm has done much to make our day as diverse as the albatross, petrels, prions, penguins, and terns that have followed in our wake.
