The end of our expedition is drawing near. We are sailing north across the Drake Passage bound for Ushuaia. This morning we awoke to rolling seas, grey skies and pounding waves. After breakfast, Global Perspectives guest speaker, Andy Clark, delivered a thought provoking and poignant lecture on climate change and Antarctica, something that has been on the minds of several guests since we arrived. Then, our assistant expedition leader, Adrienne Bosworth, briefed us all on disembarkation, a reminder that the trip is coming to an end.
After lunch the photo team hosted a photo feedback session to further our photography education onboard. This was followed by a moving presentation from National Geographic photographer, Erika Larsen, on her time living with the Sami Reindeer Herders. The talent and combined experiences on this ship continues to amaze everyone, even the staff members.
After all the planned activities, it was nice to find some quiet time to just sit with a warm drink and stare out at the Southern Ocean, to reflect on the past week. It’s hard to imagine that just yesterday we were surrounded by ice and whales. What an incredible expedition. It will be hard to say goodbye.
