Today was our second full day at sea between our last port of Belém, Pará and heading toward the city of Fortaleza in the state of Ceará, Brazil. This morning we woke up to blue skies and, unusually for this trip, blue oceanic waters as well; quite a change from all the silt-filled waters of the Amazon River and along the Guianas during the past two weeks.

This morning we had the delight of listening to our on-board scientists present the insect species they have discovered on our journey so far. After their presentation we all had the opportunity to look under the microscope at some of the more peculiar specimens discovered.

This afternoon our photo team Jose Calvo and Kike Calvo held a photo feedback session, opening up constructive discussions and ideas about how we can better approach taking photographs. During cocktail hour this evening we were treated to the musical delights of Almirzinho Gabriel and his fantastic band. What a treat to have these talented musicians travelling with us on this leg of the expedition.
