The diversity of places we have visited in the Amazon rain forest is fascinating. Most of this region is flat and flooded for most of the year. It is also fascinating the amount of life we have found as we have explored the forest. There are colorful birds, raptors of all sizes, river dolphins, and many types of monkeys.

In the early morning with a cool breeze we left Delfin II behind and headed into the deep jungle in for another adventure. With cameras in our hands we have been exploring and documenting the unique organisms of the forest. It is very exciting to see squirrel monkeys jumping from tree to tree with such precision that they never fall. One of the highlights of the morning was having breakfast in the middle of the forest floating on the skiffs surrounded by the dark tannin-rich waters of Atun Poza.

After having an exotic tropical breakfast juices and local fruits, we headed deeper into the flooded forest. Suddenly the skiffs stopped and someone said monk saki monkeys! We took our binoculars and started looking for this gorgeous creature. In a matter of seconds all of us spotted the whole family of monkeys including a little baby that travelled always close to its mom.

In the afternoon we had a long skiff ride along Pacaya River. This backwater river is dotted with swamp birds such as: egrets, Jacanas, horned screamers, parrots, etc., besides the amount of wildlife the place itself is breathtaking. This reserve comprises a vast flooded forest. The water is dark brown; this feature makes this place similar to a giant mirror for the trees and the clouds.

Once we reached the mirror-like lagoon it was time for a break in our journey. We stopped the skiffs and jumped in this mysterious pond to cool off. It was a hot day and we deserved a plunge! We grabbed beers and celebrated the end a great day of adventures in this sea of freshwater surrounded by pink river dolphins!
