Our expedition continued today with an early skiff ride exploration of an oxbow lake known as Atun Poza. Many bird species were spotted including the black-collared and roadside hawks, horned screamers, yellow-rumped caciques, etc. We had great views of the elusive brown capuchin monkeys and the always agile squirrel monkeys as well.
Later on around 0800 we had our breakfast outdoors aboard the skiffs! We had our first meal of the day served in the most fashionable way, white gloves on our naturalists´ and bartender’s hands, fabric napkins in our laps, and even handcraft dolls holding the napkins. As a background, we had the green surroundings and a concert of tropical sounds as companions. The icing on the cake was, for many of our guests, the experience of meeting a couple of local girls who showed us a piranha a large armored catfish.
In the afternoon, at around 1500 in the afternoon we started to travel on our skiffs up the Pacaya River. Our goal was to go as far as we could in this remote river. The fun was not over yet for as soon as the skiffs arrived to a large black water oxbow lake called Yanayacu we went swimming in this remote location!
It was a successful afternoon in terms of wildlife sightings. We spotted some red howler monkey troops as well. This monkey species is one of largest monkey species in South America and one of the most famous and attractive for they have one of the most impressive voices in the neotropical rain forests.
