On a cool misty morning in Magdalena Bay, we awoke to calming, distinctly deep breaths coming from our gray whale friends. They seemed to beckon us to come and play in the water, and we did not need to be asked twice. We soon took to our expedition landing crafts used for more intimate oceanic experiences, and we embarked truly spectacular rounds of whale watching adventures. Necks were craned, eyes peeled, and ears opened, as we searched out mother and calf pairings; our expert Panguero guides knew precisely where to go, and were extremely careful to make our presence known so as not to disturb the gentle giants. A few lucky hands even made direct contact with these gorgeous, gargantuan marine mammals. Meanwhile, some of the more intrepid spirits aboard forged their way on foot, across many dunes, to the wide open Pacific Ocean. We sought out coyote and osprey tracks, learned about salinity resistant adaptations, mused about dune formation and erosion, and simply enjoyed the feel of incredibly soft and warm sand against our bare feet. The afternoon ensured everyone had time to partake in their preferred activities. Another delectable dining experience prepared us well for another wonderful night's sleep, amid rhythmic whale breaths, beneath an absurdly starry night sky. Every moment was utilized, even the night, as we dream of more excitement to come tomorrow.
