Today National Geographic Quest arrived at Barro Colorado Island. This island is a very particular one—it happens to be a remaining mountaintop from the times before the Panama Canal was built. It has a tropical biology station, hiking trails, and provides great opportunities for visitors to explore and learn about the tropical rainforest in a most direct way. Here, our guests also have other activities to choose from. There are Zodiac rides around the island, and a visit to a nearby attraction known as the discovery center, located within Soberanía National Park. An observation tower, hiking trails, and a hummingbird garden are located there. All of this together provides great opportunities for wildlife observation and photography.
In the afternoon, our vessel started its way through the last set of locks towards the city of Colon, where our journey finishes and a new one is just about to start.
