As soon as the sun rose, we started our day by climbing to the top of Bartholome Island. We started our climb to the top of this extinct volcano and had great light for photography. This island is famous for its spectacular landscapes and geology.
Volcanic features can be seen relatively well in the Galápagos. The weather is quite similar throughout the year and this consequently preserves geological features well for thousands of years. We had a well-paced walk to the summit and had a great time photographing lava flows, craters, and pinnacle rock. From the summit, we could also observe flying fish as well as frigatebirds and boobies flying around.
After returning to the ship for breakfast, we set out again. This time we went to a small golden-colored beach, where we snorkeled with penguins, rays, and different species of fish. We also took our glass-bottom boat for a ride along the coast of this nice calm bay and saw just as much as the snorkelers did.
Later, we repositioned our ship to Chinese Hat islet and went snorkeling there with sea lions, sharks, stingrays, and penguins. After this activity we returned to the National Geographic Endeavour and got ready for a second outing. This time, we took Zodiac rides along the coast of Chinese Hat islet and observed Galápagos hawks, sea lions, penguins, and the amazing landscape so characteristic of this area.
After a great day we enjoyed an incredible sunset.
