Our first morning activity was before breakfast. The idea was to get to the top of Bartolomé Island to enjoy one of the most famous landscapes in this archipelago. To get to the summit we had to climb 380 wooden steps, and as we were climbing up we had the opportunity to learn about the geology of this archipelago. It was also a good opportunity to learn about how the Galapagos’ flora and fauna can exist in this isolated paradise.
Once at the top, the view was breathtaking and everyone agreed why, this one square mile Island is a hot spot for every Galapagos explorer.
After our successful morning activity we had breakfast and then we invited everyone to join us at the main lounge for water activities briefing. Our second morning activity took place on a beautiful golden beach, which is a good place to refresh our guests’ water skills with the help of our naturalist guides. Those with more experience went a bit farther, looking for sharks, sea lions, penguins, rays and many species of fish.
It was a very intense morning, but full of unique memories that will stay in our hearts forever.
Our day continued on a different island, Rabida Island. Everyone was already satisfied, but the day was far from over, so we sent a Zodiac for deep water snorkelers, a group of kayakers, and two groups of hikers to explore a beautiful red sandy beach covered with playful Galapagos sea lions. While everyone was enjoying the activity they had chosen, we were interrupted with a radio call. A huge pod of bottle nose dolphins had been spotted!
Snorkelers came back onboard the Zodiacs while the hikers and kayakers joined together to witness one of the most spectacular events with these playful marine mammals.
Today was just our first full day in Galapagos and we have already had one of those moments that only happen once in a lifetime.
