The DER below is from the expedition to Cuba that began on January 25, 2017.

This morning everyone interested in “getting the worm” was up and off Panorama II before sunrise. Our destination was Zapata National Park for a walk to look for Cuban birdlife, especially the world’s smallest bird: the bee hummingbird! Not only did we get up close and personal looks at this hummingbird, but many other beautiful birds of all shapes and sizes as well

Those who chose a more civilized hour of departure stopped at the Bay of Pigs Museum in Playa Girón to learn more about the famous conflict in the spring of 1962. The two groups met at Punta Perdiz for snorkeling and swimming in the crystal clear and warm waters of the Bay of Pigs.

Our afternoon was spent in the presence of the young artist from the Korimakao Community Project where we were treated to a performance by budding actors and musicians. A short walk to the hummingbird house rounded out our afternoon before returning to Cienfuegos.
