Our upper Amazon exploration, brought us to a fascinating morning outing. Some of us had a few choices to explore, while some went on a hike within the rain forest, others chose to go on a ride along the river, spotting a few squirrel monkeys, toucans, a couple peccaries, and local fishermen at their daily routine.
During the afternoon, we went for a relaxing walk along the river beach-like flats to spot hundreds of the dusky headed parriquettes feeding on the remains of an old already harvested rice plantation nearby. A great variety of birds were spotted along the dry river beds. The water was warm and calm, therefore we went swimming in the relaxing waters. Some of us chose to experience a taste of a very unique river clay exfoliation therapy which was offered by our masseuse on board. We covered ourselves in clay and open our minds to relaxation and a good time.
We soon went back on board and took the dry clay off our bodies and went right out for a late afternoon and night exploration to encounter some snake birds, howler monkeys, and as soon as the night arrived, we spotted several reticulated and black caimans. The caiman’s eye shines with the flashlight shine from the distance. A pair of glowing eyes became plenty off the sides of the river, glowing eyes everywhere in the middle of the dark night.
What an amazing experience, nothing can compare to the peaceful and wild rainforest and river ecosystems of the upper Peruvian Amazon.
