Our Amazon exploration brought us today to a place of magic, and the best way to begin our journey was on a pre-breakfast skiff ride in order to explore nature’s attractions. The morning was lit up by the calling of different birds that surrounded the skiffs. The presence of tall trees lining the river made us feel as if we were in paradise as they were covered by green leaves of different sizes. At the end of the skiff ride, we had a tremendous moment as we shared the presence of pygmy marmosets that were found climbing the trees.

Once back on board Delfin II, we enjoyed a delightful breakfast and prepared for the next part of our exploration. The adventure continued with a hike into the forest in order to see what Belluda Caño had to show us. As we landed the symphony played by the birds made for an enjoyable moment. Farther into the forest, insects of different aspects were found as an ornamental addition to the plants’ leaves.  On our way back to Delfin II, we had the magnificent presence of macaws flying over us.

In the afternoon, our navigation brought us to our next destination: Dorado River. The best way to get into the forest to explore was to take a skiff ride up the river in order to find more of nature’s surprises. A narrow path into the Dorado River left by the low water season was a challenging moment for the adventure. Once we reached the deeper water, different bird species were found at each side of the coastline: lesser kiskidee, kingfishers, ospreys, black collared hawks, jacamars, and parrots were part of the wonders that showed us we were in a special place.

After a superb sunset, we started making our way back in total darkness in order to see one of the highlights of the Amazon: spectacled caimans. The first one was found very close to the shoreline, and did not move at all as soon as we approached it. It stayed motionless the whole time we were close making it a perfect photo op. At the end of exploration, we had the gratification of having one of the most splendid moments of the week that the Amazon could ever offer us by seeing several spectacled caimans along the riverside.
