Our fourth day exploring the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve started with a gentle rain. This didn’t discourage our explorers who, before breakfast, loaded into the skiffs all geared up for the rain.
We first navigated along the Ucayali River looking for macaws. The species that were seen first were the red-bellied macaws. They were all perched together, making their usual calls and not being bothered by the rain. A pair of blue and yellow macaws were also seen during this outing.
After breakfast, the skiffs headed to explore Belluda Cano. A group of guests decided to explore this creek in kayaks. The rain had stopped and we had a fresh overcast morning to enjoy. We had great sightings of night owl monkeys, Isabel’s saki monkeys and a great diversity of birds. It was a great morning.
In the afternoon, we arrived to Dorado River. Giant water lilies were seen all around the mouth of the river. A small fishing village gave us a warm welcome, showing us the different species of fish they had caught. As we continued exploring the river, the sun began to set and we began to look for caimans.
At the end of the day, we could only conclude that it had been another awesome day in the Upper Amazon.
