Belluda Creek is one of those places that makes you think about the surprises that Mother Nature can give us. The best way to enjoy this area of the Ucayali River is by starting the day at 6:00 am. We boarded the skiffs and headed out to explore the forest and the first surprise we had was sighting yellow bellied macaws… and an anteater!

As the early morning outing was just fantastic. We were ready for more exploration after breakfast and expected more sightings. This time we explored deeper into the forest around Belluda Creek. Here we spotted two types of sloths and night monkeys! This was just the beginning of our outing, as we explored more the forest we had many more sightings. Many songbirds and types of raptors. The most special raptor sighting of the morning was the laughing falcon which happens to be a very elusive creature that can be heard but seldom seen.

In the afternoon, we planned to board our skiffs to explore Dorado River. This is a great place for watching dolphins, birds and monkeys! Regarding bird life, we spotted cara-caras and hawks. There were many squirrel monkeys, they are always a show to behold. As this is our visit that takes us in an adventure from daylight to nigh time in the jungle it is very exciting. Because the wildlife at night is different. This place is also the best for caiman watching! We looked for them with spotlights in our hands and of course they were there. With glowing eyes and hiding in the floating vegetation of the pond.

It was a fascinating day, very exciting with beautiful weather and full of sightings from beginning to end.
