To explore this great forest, the largest rain forest of the world! We have to start early. Before sun rises and the rewards are great. At sunrise we can see a myriad of birds of all sizes and types. All of them conspicuous some colorful and noisy like blue and yellow macaws and others silent and elegant like the great black hawk.
In the early morning we explored the bank of the Ucayali River; which is made of large trees, different types of bamboo and many other vines and bushes along the river bank. While we explored the forest, we spotted yellow headed caracaras, yellow rumped caciques and blue and yellow macaws! These are just amazing birds as their plumage glows under the morning sun. they are indeed a sighting not to forget.
The afternoon was devoted to exploring Dorado River and its surrounding forest. Our exploration at Dorado River consists of a visit that allows us to explore the place at sunset with golden light and at night in order to spot some nocturnal animals such as bats night hawks and the notorious Amazon caiman! We use flashlights to look for them among floating vegetation. It does not take long to find their red glowing eyes among grasses and water lettuce patches.
Every day is amazing and mother nature will give to you the best she can. What a day! So many sightings, I can’t wait to see more.
