A theme of our Caribbean exploration has been the diversity and uniqueness of each of its islands—their history, language, culture, and biology. Today, as we anchored in Bequia’s Admiralty Bay, we prepared to encounter yet another distinct landscape. Bequia (pronounced Be-quee) is part of the independent nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and has a culture rooted in boat-making, whaling, and fishing. We arrived onshore early to discover the island’s colorful streets and people. Historian Tom Heffernan led a walk to a local model boat museum while some guests joined photo instructors Celso Montalvo and Alex Krowiak for a guided photo walk along the scenic Belmont Walk. Later, everyone joined together Princess Margaret beach for swimming and tropical cocktails before once again boarding Sea Cloud for an afternoon sail toward St. Lucia.
