We started our day aboard National Geographic Sea Lion with a stretch class from Julie, our wellness specialist, and a delicious breakfast. We sailed north to Lopez Mateos Town during breakfast, right after we picked up Sergio, our pilot. With Sergio on board we can go through the Hull Canal, because he has all the local knowledge needed to pass those shallow and narrow channels. We saw mangroves, dunes, egrets, and herons, but the bottlenose dolphins were the ones that took our breath away while they were bow-riding.
During our transit north, naturalist Octavio Maravilla gave a presentation about pinnipeds in Mexico. Eventually we arrived at our anchorage site, and we immediately headed out to the dunes to enjoy the view and feel the texture of the sand on our feet.
After lunch, the crew set up the Global Gallery and our guests did some shopping. Next, we were ready to head to sea and search for some whales. However, the weather and low tide did not allow us to access where they were, so we went to our plan B: mangrove ride and a visit to a local oyster farm. Here the owners explained the process of growing oysters and we got to taste some.
During sunset time our guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the sundeck with live music from local musicians Los Coyotes, and great dancing from Las Flores del Desierto Duet. We danced, we laughed, and we clapped. We finished our day in the north end of Magdalena Bay with a great dinner buffet and some more live music from Los Coyotes.
