It was the second day of our Costa Rica–Panama expedition and no one had any idea of the amazing day ahead of us. The day started with an expedition craft ride at Bona Island, where we saw brown boobies, blue-footed boobies, magnificent frigatebirds and brown pelicans by the hundreds, which amazed all of us.

Back on board National Geographic Sea Lion, we were ready to say good bye to Bona Island, full of great memories, when a large number of false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens) appeared. As soon as we were underway, many of them started bow riding and breaching right in front of us. This “gift from Mother Nature,” as many of our guests described it, lasted for about 25 minutes while we navigated towards Iguana Island, our next destination.

By mid-afternoon we were dropping anchor in front of Iguana Island, a gem in the middle of the warm waters of the Panamanian Pacific Ocean. Kayaking, snorkeling and a short hike were the activities planned for this great destination. Our guests had time for all activities, which they enjoyed at their own pace, either swimming, paddling or walking around the island for wildlife spotting.

It was almost time to go back to our ship but as always we got our chance to enjoy one more beautiful sunset; another perfect ending to a wonderful day full of new memories for all of us.
