In 1513, the famous Spaniard, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, decided to lead an expedition in which over 400 men, both indigenous and Spanish, walked the dense jungle in search of another sea.
National Geographic Quest also decided to explore the archipelago and we set sail to Bona & Otoque Islands where we did two rounds of Zodiac cruises. We saw a nesting site for the magnificent frigatebird, brown boobies, blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, and a peregrine falcon.
After our excursions we lifted the anchor and headed to Panama Bay to transit through the Panama Canal. This is always a highly anticipated and fun experience.
