This morning we disembarked at Caletas Beach for our first adventure offshore. It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone was eager to step into the tropical rainforest. Today’s activities included horseback riding along the beach, intrepid trekking all the way to Drake Bay town, and nature walks into the interior rainforest ecosystems of Caletas. We spotted many interesting plants and animals like white-faced capuchin monkeys, collared peccaries, black mandible toucans, red capped manakin, chestnut-backed antbird, leafcutter ants, and anole lizards among many more. They all live harmoniously in a complex ecological interaction that has developed over time.
In the afternoon, it was time to explore Corcovado National Park, which National Geographic has called one of the most biologically intense place on earth. During our visit we experienced the true meaning of a rainforest as rain poured through the canopy. The water theme continued as we explored a waterfall and swam in the natural pools. Some guests took photo walks along the Pargo trail with cameras in hand. All in all, a satisfying welcome to the country of “pura vida".
