Our last full day in the Amazon rainforest was full of great surprises. We started the day with a walk in the forest where we found incredible wildlife, and finished with a heartwarming visit to a beautiful community called Amazonas.
Anahí grew up in a small house by the beach in the Galápagos Islands. Along with her best friend, she used to wander during the days around mangrove trees, becoming a different animal every day. She used to camp on solitary beaches, snorkel with shar...

This green, vast jungle is home to many colorful birds, mammals, and reptile species. Some of them are seen every day, others not so often, such as anacondas and poisonous tree frogs. Today we had the opportunity to find them as we explored Casual Forest. Today’s exploration was full of interesting surprises, starting with the majesty of the giant trees and palms tangled among vines and bromeliads that are home to the exotic reptiles and amphibians that delighted us this morning. In the afternoon, we visited the Amazonas community to meet the local leaders. This was a great opportunity to learn about their culture and way of life. We learned so much and appreciated their hard work to make amazing handicrafts.
Today we started with a skiff exploration of an open area of the river where we spotted pink river dolphins. We stayed with them for a long time, watching their elegant moves as they performed their courtship ritual. It is the time of the year when this takes place. It was an extraordinary way to start the day. After breakfast, we went deep into a tributary in search of wildlife. Not only did we find a large troop of squirrel monkeys that were feeding on fruits, carrying their babies on their backs, and jumping from tree to tree, but also, we found a porcupine hidden inside of a dead tree and a woodpecker that appeared in front of us. In the afternoon, we had a skiff exploration in Clavero Lake where we found sloths, nighthawks, and the colorful caciques, at their best in the afternoon light.
We had an absolutely beautiful morning. We started with an early breakfast as we planned a long skiff exploration to reach the deepest part of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. Pacaya River is made up of black water and an exuberant forest that reflects itself on the black water of the river, giving the impression of a jungle and a giant mirror. As we explored the forest, we had some amazing sightings! The trees were full of surprises as there were thousands of birds and troops of howler monkeys, to the delight of everyone! In the afternoon, we enjoyed our navigation down the great Ucayali River. It was time to relax after a proper exploration of the best part of the reserve.
