The morning is warm and the river is calm. Our team is ready to start a new exploration in the Upper Amazon. Every week is different, every outing is a new experience, every sighting is a new emotion; you really never know what is coming, what is going to be seen. It could be a flock of Scarlett’s macaws lighting the sky, or a troop of a hundred squirrel monkeys jumping from branch to branch, or… a harpy eagle that is seen from time to time.
Early in the morning we explored a creek into the jungle to start this new adventure. It is our first full day and Mother Nature gives us what we deserve. We found many type of birds, blue cotingas, flight catchers, kingbirds, swallows, Amazon kingfishers, squirrel monkeys, oropendolas and more. The Amazon has a high biodiversity of birds and you can see many of them once you are birding.
After an hour and half we came back to Delfin II to have a nutritious breakfast with fruits of the region. Some of our guests have never before seen or eaten these fruits, and it becomes part of the travel experience, enjoying new flavors, tasting new food.
Later we went to Casual for a forest walk. Wearing rubber boots, our intrepid guests walked into the jungle, and with the help of three local boys, found animals as we explored the area. Once you start walking you feel the humidity of the rainforest. We have learned about medicinal plants and how the inhabitants survive taking what Mother Nature offers to them. By the side of the trail the helpers were bringing some little creatures such as frogs and tarantulas. They also found a baby sloth climbing a tree, juvenile boas and anacondas – a very productive morning!
In the afternoon we moved to Nauta Creek, and then took our skiffs to another exploration. The sounds of nature are just an incredible experience, you can hear far in the distance the very loud sound of the horn screamers (one of the biggest birds found here, which are in the family of the guises), or the sound of the red howler monkeys. Our local guides stop the skiffs at any time, as soon as they identify the sound of an animal. They are experts in finding creatures that may be very hard for our guests to otherwise locate.
