National Geographic Sea Bird cruised south down the Chatham Strait at 10 knots with 30 knot gusts blowing at her stern. In complete protection from the wind, we found Saook Bay ideal for exploration with glass calm waters, copious amounts of ripe berries, and intertidal treasures.

Dr. Carlton gave a fascinating presentation on the unexpected ecological effects of the 2011 Japanese tsunami, highlighting how inorganic debris swirling in the North Pacific High serve as habitat for exotic species in pelagic environments.
