Today proved to be warm and sunny as is usual for Clarkston, Washington. The group from the National Geographic Sea Bird gathered for yoga on the decks, breakfast, and the morning update on the logistics of the day. The group had a difficult choice to make a few days back either to go on the exciting jet boat tour up the Snake River, or take a motor coach ride to various important stops along the corps of discovery—Lewis and Clark’s historic route. Each trip was fascinating where all travelers enjoyed lunch away and saw stunning scenic basalt cliffs. Wildlife was spotted in the likes of big horn sheep, an eagle, hawks, and various other birds. There were turkeys and geese among as well as quick deer sightings that were enjoyed by most.
After the exciting outings where everyone learned about geology, history, wildlife, and what a jet boat sounds like, some culminated together to drive a scenic half-hour in Nez Perce country where Lewis and Clark spent a month among them. The destination was the Nez Perce National Historic Park; where historical interpretation and artifacts shed light on this compassionate culture that spared the lives of these explorers.
The evening was filled with a wonderful sunset, cocktails, a gorgeous slideshow, and a captain’s farewell dinner that proved to be the best kind of “Recap” we all could want to close a fabulous trip on the Columbia and Snake River.
