Another sunny, beautiful day greets us. We started with an early morning stretch on the upper deck.

This morning we arrived at a small inlet, Granito de Oro. Thousands of hermit crabs were found crawling on the beach. The rock outcropping and corals serves as an excellent spot for snorkeling.

We also explored the pristine water by swimming and kayaking. Chair massages were offered for the landlubbers, in the shade on the beach. Some of the more adventurous kayakers took the challenge of paddling four miles to the ranger station at Coiba Island National Park.

Coiba is one of the largest marine park in the world, which until only recently served as a penal colony. Once we landed, we were served a picnic lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs, with all of the fixings, at the shaded, picnic tables. For dessert, we had watermelon and fresh-baked cookies. After lunch, we continued to enjoy the water with snorkeling or kayaking. Max, one of our naturalists, led a short birding walk before leaving Coiba Island.

After a day of sun and fun at the beaches, we came back on board to relax with cocktail hour, followed by the evening recap in the lounge. Naturalist Margrit entertained us with a very lively and informative video presentation on all the sea creatures she found underwater this morning. After dinner, Max gave a comprehensive history presentation about Costa Rica and coffee.
