After traveling 129 nautical miles through the night, we awoke to our first sunset in Panama. We spent the morning exploring one of the country’s newest national parks, Coiba, a place that offers true immersion in paradise with its turquoise waters, soft sand, tropical fish, and lush forests. Guests enjoyed kayaking, snorkeling, and stand-up paddleboarding. Salted and happy, we returned to the ship to haul anchor and head towards our date with the Panama Canal.
During the afternoon, Naturalist Margrit Ulrich gave a talk on The Great American Biotic Interchange and National Geographic Expert Jen Guyton presented on reptiles and amphibians of Costa Rica and Panama. Both talks contextualized just how impressive the biodiversity of the tropics can be.
This day marks a transition in our voyage as we reflect on treasured memories of Costa Rica and enter into Panama, the land of the canal. We look forward to the days to come!
