Sunrise came early but getting up to view it was well worth it, for the sunrise in the Columbia River Gorge was nothing less than spectacular. That was just the beginning of a full day that started with the arrival of the sun and ended with its departure as we landed back on board National Geographic Sea Bird at the end of the day.
The morning was filled with the panoramic views of the Columbia River Gorge and passing through our first lock at Cascade Creek. After lunch, we boarded busses to reach our first stop at Multnomah Falls. Afterward, we divided into two groups depending on one’s choice of excursion, either the Columbia River Fish Hatchery to learn about salmon and sturgeon, or Beacon Rock for some hiking at this popular location.
Our day ended at the Columbia River Interpretive Center for a private reception of tasty treats and wine tasting.
