Thursday morning found the National Geographic Sea Bird ready to explore Cross Sound in Alaska’s inside passage. Everybody loaded up in expedition landing crafts to cruise around the Inian islands. As the tide floods into the islands, it brings with it food-rich waters from the Pacific Ocean. Bald eagles could be seen all along the tree-lined shore line. Steller sea lions basked in the sun, waiting for the all-you-can-eat buffet to begin. As the fish-laden water poured in and the sea lions began their feast, the sea otters bedded down in the bullwhip kelp to wait out the surging tides.
The afternoon found the group on a new set of adventures in Dundas Bay, just inside the boundaries of pristine Glacier Bay National Park. First, a small group had the chance to explore the bay by water. As the water activities came to an end, another small group ventured near muskeg and forest to hike through the wilderness.
