Our week’s outings began with a morning visit to Culloden Battlefield on the outskirts of Inverness, the site of the final battle of the 1745-6 Jacobite Rebellion. After a guided tour of the battlefield, we ventured a bit further on to explore Clava Cairns, a Bronze Age site.

We returned to the ship to continue our journey along the Caledonian Canal, crossing Loch Ness on our way to our day’s berth at Fort Augustus. There was a hiking opportunity at Fort Augustus, across varied terrain with everything from a golf course to a track through the woodlands.

The evening program was an entertaining and informative demonstration of the plaid, showing how this traditional garment was historically worn by the Highlanders.
