This morning, we left the Lord of the Glens to discover some historical spots around Culloden. For our first stop, we visited the site of the Battle of Culloden. A foggy morning set the tone and atmosphere for a visit to the grounds of the battle that occurred in 1746. We took a short coach ride to visit the site of an ancient cairn. We walked around and marveled at the rock structures that still stand after over 4,000 years.
For lunch, we arrived back to the Lord of the Glens and headed south through one of the most famous bodies of water in the world, Loch Ness. Passing along our starboard side, we had time to see the remains of the once great Urquhart Castle. We arrived through the first set of locks in Fort Augustus where we docked. In the afternoon, we set out for a four-mile stroll through the countryside of Fort Augustus. Needless to say, after such a long day, our barman back on board was a popular man. What a fabulous day here in the Highlands of Scotland aboard the Lord of the Glens.
